So in English when we say something was "a close call" it means that something bad almost happened but you avoided it at the last minute. So a few years ago I was driving my car in the winter and I was coming up to a stoplight. I needed to stop my car, and when I hit the brakes the car started to slide instead of stop because I was on ice. There was ice on the road. So I slid for quite a while and there was a car in front of me that was stopped and slowly my car slowed down until eventually just at the last second it stopped. So that was a close call. I almost got into an accident. I almost hit the person in front of me.
